DPD A/C Freon Capacity ?
 

Hi All,

The original DPD A/C on my '74 2.0 actually blows semi-cool. Based on a full complement of receipts, it looks like it was last charged in the late 1980s.

In the future I will likely replace the York with a Sanden and upgrade the hoses. For now, I am thinking I will just vacuum down the system and, if it holds vacuum, recharge with R12. Might put some dye in there to help find any potential leaks.

What is the initial charge amount in ounces for these systems?

Shoot, I just realized, I have a copy of the DPD installation manual.

2 1/2 lbs of R12 refrigerant is what it calls for.

3 years later and I am finally getting around to this job.

I have replaced all the old lines, new expansion valve, drier, fittings. Flushed the evaporator and condensor, now just need to swap out the York.

Any idea how much oil. On the new compressor I simply replaced the pag with same amount of mineral oil. Not sure how much to add for the other components????

You'll have to use your manifold gauges to tell when the system is running the right amount of refrigerant. That's after you pull a vacuum overnight anyway right?

Dave's numbers are probably close. Look up the high and low side values of the original system to see what your targets are for R-12 with that system volume.

It'll be under a vacuum anyway, so if you don't find out immediately it will be perfectly happy under vacuum until you have them... just don't turn it on!

I'm traveling so somebody else here might have those pressure specs.

Yes, pressures will be dealt with soon. For the moment I am trying to determine how much mineral oil to add beyond what is in the compressor given that evaporator, condensor have been flushed and new accumulator.
