Delphi Green L99A
Just bought 74 914 w/ 12K. It is original paint except one door. It doesn't match well. Delphi green is over 50% clear. It is going to spray out very translucent. I need to know what base color or primer was used at the factory so I can get this absurd color to match better?
Was original paint acrylic enamel? |
Delphi Green
Thought it was a 12K car but turns out 18K documented miles. Always stored inside.
Here are some pics. Need to match this crazy paint on a few spots. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1282015140.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1282015162.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1282015179.jpg |
LOL, even the dog is afraid of that color!
find a spot you can remove a little paint to observe the primer. Delphi or Ravenna Green both look great as widebody cars.Nice find! |
Sure is dusty, but if only 12K miles (not 112K), thats a real nice find. Any idea why the door paint wasn't matching to begin with? is it a 1.8 or a 2.0?

It has 18K. Yes it is documented. I got from original owner. Never touched since 83.
Bicycle fell on door and rear tire wobbled the fender . Only thing that will be done is paint match the couple of areas. Leading to my question: What color primer or base is under L99A Delphi Green. The paint is over 60% clear. |
Nice find !
Whats that hanging under the dash ? |
8 Track tape player. Had Jim Croce in there but PO wanted it bsck.

Okay I think I have this Delphi green paint figured out.
I found a paint code sticker in door jamb that says(pics soon): TWO STAGE PAINT L13M SATURN YELLOW The build plate on car says L99A Delphi Green. While cleaning I found a chip in the paint revealing a yellow base or primer. With this info I am certain that the base color is SATURN YELLOW under the very transparent DELPHI GREEN. So I shot a test piece and the Saturn Yellow is a flat base that matched the chip on car perfectly. The Delphi Green is very tough to match. I need less green and more gold on the next test shot. |
