Fourth gear issue...

The car will not stay in fourth (1974 914-2.0), when you shift up to 4 it goes in fine but when releasing the clutch is just pushes out. No grinding or balking in any of the other gears. This is a new to me car and do not know any history.

Suggestions?

Thanks

The synchro and/or the slider is worn out. You're going to need to open up the gearbox and repair it.
