Hi all, I would like to get more information about 916.
I have a 914/6 conversion with 3 liter SC engine. To register it legally here in Finland I have to first prove it corresponds to the 916 models with at least 2,4L engine. (The final size can be 20% bigger.) I know the basic differences between 914 and 916, but I would like to know more. For example, what kind of differences there is in front and rear suspensions?? I think there is. I have read that there is some kind of reinforcements in the floors too. Is it true ?? I think somebody wrote something about roll cage that TUV require if 914 has bigger six in Germany. If my memory still works, I would like to hear more about that. Does TUV require something else too ?? Can somebody send, fax or e-mail me those TUV requirements. I would be very grateful every single piece of information that help me registering my 914. You can write off-line too. My e-mail is: timo.kirkkomaki@sroy.fi. Thanks, Timo Finland |

As I recall (off the top of my head), a good percentage of the 916s
had 2.7L engines. I can't remember where I read this...... That would get you within your 20% rule. JPIII

JP's right, only 3 of the 916's had 2.4l motors, the rest had 210hp 2.7l in 'em.
There is a chart at http://www.dgi.net/914/ Go to the 914 Technical spec page, then click on 916 Serial numbers to see the chart listing the engine types. Geoff

To answer your question, the suspension system had to be similar to the 914/6. According to the "Porsche" by Mike McCarthy, the 916 came with 7" wheels and 185/70/15 tires. Suspension modifications included antiroll bars front and rear and ventilated disk. 20 916 were prepaired for the Paris Motor Show in October 1971. Two weeks before the opening, the project was cancelled.
Also, a couple of 914s were build for the Porsche family with 3.0 8 cylinder racing motors. Hmmm. If only I could find one of those, or if I was a better machinist... |

6/gt/91info TUV
i have a GT 9140430919 that had a larger engine & larger wheels & flares fitted in germany; I have the original TUV regisration papers. The TUV papers do not indicate any rollcage requirements but they do record the wheel size change and engine change (size not indicated, but number is
indicated which would reveal size); the car also has the factory reinforcing kit but that is not recorded in the TUV papers either |

Hi Larry !!
That paper would be very interesting to see. TUV decisions are not directly valid here, but I am sure all papers with TUV name will help. Could you send a copy of it or scan it, please ?? I would be very thankful. It could help too if I get a German register number of some 914 with 3 liter engine. Then I could order copy of the papers of this car from German registration authority. There should be all what kind of modifications TUV demand. Timo ![]() |

Hello
The 916 where basically 914/6 Gt´s with a steelroof. The 916 was made to compete in the abouve 2,0 L GT Classes. The 916 came with the 2,4 S and the 915 trany. 911 S frontaxle and ventet discs at the rear. The nosepiece was aerodynamically optimized for lower lift and lower cd. After the project was chancelled most cars get costum orientatet equipment and engines abouve the 2,5 L class. 914/6 Gt´s came with structural reinforcements and are approved for the loads. Yet they also came with a rollbar standard ( different versions and setups ). The 914/6 GT has not the same ABE ( TÜV permission ) like the 914/6. The TÜV runs it as a own cartype based on the 914 chassis. German TÜV will force you to a rollbar if you exceed 7" in the rear or 200 HP. Porsche sends out a technical datasheet to TÜV. You also need 911 S brakes and four ventet discs if you go over the 160 HP border or your cross wight is rised. If you go for wide rims you need Bilsteins or Konis capable to handle the extra wight. BNasically it doesn´t matter if you use a 914 or a 47 chassis the rules apply to both. Grüsse |

Thanks Grüsse !!
That was interesting information. Do you have or know where I could get those TÜV papers about rollbars and Porsche´s technical datasheet to the TÜV. Timo ![]() |
