Tach craps out when headlight switch is on #$%* What Up?
 

Hello all,

So I am driving my 914 and once I put on the headlights on the tach goes all crazy. This has just started so I know it worked in the past. Any help will be great appreciated.

Have you done anything to the wiring recently? Or replaced any light bulbs or anything else?

Could be a popped fuse. The ones we have can look OK and still be popped; pull them one at a time and check them.

No I haven't done anything with the wiring. I do notice that the tach moves around when I move the dimmer switch around on the headlight switch. Could the light switch be pooched?

All fuses seem good. I pulled them out one at a time and checked them they all seem fine.

I was having similar issues...kind of.

My tach was bouncing as well. Yesterday, I was re-wiring an aftermarket stereo setup, and started checking fuses because I had no power to the unit. I found a bad fuse, replaced it, and just like that, the stereo was fixed, the turn signals were fixed, the flasher was fixed, the gas gauge was fixed, and the tach quit bouncing. Go figure. For what it was worth, it was th 5th fuse from the end on the RIGHT side. Count backwards from the right end - #5 is what I replaced.

I would recommend checking your grounds.
