914 Rear Spring Replacement How-To?

Does someone have a written "How-To" for rear shock and spring replacement on a 74 914?

Thanks,

Greg

I don't think anyone has thought it was complicated enough to warrant one.

You unbolt the top and bottom bolts on the strut, remove it from the car, use a spring compressor to hold the spring, remove the nut on top and slide it off. Check your Haynes manual for the illustration of the rear strut, or the parts diagrams elsewhere on this site.

Many aftermarket springs are not tall enough to put tension on the top hat when the weight of the car is off them, so in those cases spring compressors aren't even needed.

Thank you Dave,

Better to check if you've not done it before rather than be surprised.

Regards,

Greg
