Vara A-H 3000 vs 72 914
I was on the 605 freeway Sat morning when a BRG A-H with a roll cage and the# 60 omn the door came flying up and passed ne so I follow him. He hits the gas and the Triple Webers roared . So I put the loud pedal down and we were of, I was surprised that It wasnt able to pull away from me as I stay with him following about 50 yards back, we hit 110 and he never pulled away I was right in his mirror. I did notice that the A-H had a really hard time with the pavement as we went on each overpass. My 914 was stable and true while the A-H was skitish and weaving. He may of had more top end but I feel that I could easliy keep up and if there had been some corners I could of left him. Not bad for a car that a year ago was sitting next to a barn in the mountains abandoned. Steve

Hi Steve -
I picked up a beautiful '66 BJ8 big Healy right before Christmas. My 2.0 will easily out handle it, but the Healy is significantly faster in a straight line - piles of torque. I use the climb from Denver to Genesee as a guage. The 914 will do 85 - 90 if I really work it. The Healy did an easy 95 with lots of room to go - but riding on wires with 165's got a bit scary. You guys with big sixes in your 914's must never quit smiling... Heres a pic of the latest aquisition: Scott S

I know that big Healey! If its the one I am thinking of, it has a V8 in it. Real nice guy that owns it, too. I think his daily driver is a 911.

Hi Steve -
The 85MPH I am referring to is the climb from Denver (5280 ft) to Genesee (6700 ft). Its a steep climb as you leave Denver into the mountains. While I am sure that on a long flat straight I may be able to keep up (especially as the Healy starts to get nervous), there is no way on the steep incline. I was truly shocked at the grunt that car had. -S
