94mm OR 96mm

Rebuilding my stone stock 2.0L 914 and I am going to purchase new P/C kit one way or the other. I was wondering what 914 enthusiasts would recommend 94mm or 96mm P/C ?

what are your plans for the car? club racing in stock class? then whatever keeps you in stock not modified class- 94mm hopefully 94mm euro compression. street rod? 96mm. my impression is a set of 96mm p & c's are cheaper that a set of euro 94mm if that's a factor.

If you used 96mm have Stock 94 mm Cylinders opened up to 96mm. Steve

The plans for the car are summer daily driver, thus street. I do not plan on doing anything legally competitive. I am looking for the best bang for the buck.

What about cylinder head leaks with the 96mm p/c ? Won't there be less material for a good seal on the heads? Since the costs for good kits are about equal, I guess I am looking for the pro's and con's of doing one or the other.

I intend to do a complete rebuild, and make the cost effective upgrades where they make sense. After all the car is around 30 years old and some better proven parts combinations must be out there.

Any feed back from those who have modified their engines using 96mm pistons?

Go to http://shoptalkforums.com/, Type 4rum, and do a search for 96mm pistons. You will find a ton of posts discussing 96 p/c's and sealing issues. You might try searching for flame cut and sealing also to find some more good info.

I ran 96mm p/cs on my last car, never had problems,
my latest motor has 94mm euro's due to my auto-x class

the 96s are cheaper or at least where I buy 'em from.
