spliced condensor connection

While changing out the condensor I found that both the wire from the condensor and from the bottom of distibutor had been cut and spliced together. Is that a good idea? How hard would it be to replace the wire from the distributor, or should I just repeat the last install? Thanks.

Huh?? I don't understand what you're saying.

The wire from the condensor should go into a hole in the side of the distributor body. The wire from the points plugs into that, just inside the distributor body. The plug on the end of the condensor wire has plastic insulation around it so it does not short to the distributor body.

There is another braided ground "strap" that goes from the points plate to the distributor body itself. This provides the main ground path for the points, and is pretty important.

Which wires have been cut and spliced? Spliced to what?

There is a wire from the points that connects to the metal connector on the inside of the distributor. The hole on the opposite side of the connection has two wires attached. One is the braided set, but that leads to the coil. The other wire was spliced with the condensor wire instead of using the connector that was originally on the condenser wire. I don't see an area to attach the condensor wire. How am I supposed to connect the new condesor wire without splicing that wire?

don't sweat it; electrical contact is the only requirement; many aftermarket vw sets don't have the right length wires for the 914 but it all works the same
