911 axles / CV's in a 914?
Guys,
Thanks to more than one of you, learned of wilco's excellent post from last November regarding 911 p-brake on a 914 trailing arm. This prompted another question: The "organ donor" for my 914/6 conversion was a very T-boned '84 Carrera courtesy of e-Bay. Took everything useful off the carcass, for use or resale. Went through the expense of having the 914's rear flanges redrilled for 5 bolt, and am using the 911 calipers. Re-packed the 914 CV's, serviceable, but a little tired. I still have the 911's CV's, axles, hubs, etc. Now that I'm older but not necessarily smarter, I've gotten most of the Swepco out of my hair, am wondering if I can transplant the 911 CV's, axles, and stub axles onto my teener for a beefier powertrain. I know there was some spline incompatibility on mixing / matching 914/911 axle stuff, but what about using all 911 parts? Am running a rebuilt 901 tranny with the transplanted 3.2, and I'm concerned the 914 CV's won't last too long. Thanks in advance, this forum is awesome!!! |
I have 911 CVs in my car.
I am not sure if Carrera CVs will work in a 914. I believe that you have to use early 911 stub axles and early 911 CVs. Then you have to find 901/911 drive axles for the Tranny. Furthermore, you also have to have a spacer to make up the difference. If you cannot find the drive axles for the tranny, I have a couple of adapters available to mate the 911CV to the 914/901 drive flanges (they have finally been made and should be here this week). |
