914 Pickups-thats right!
I was going through my old 914 magazine articles I've collected over the years and I found the two articles about two 914 pickups that were built. They were both built by Troutman in Costa Mesa in the '70s. One was a -4 which the Aase Bros, used for a parts hauler and the other was a -6. The -6 was a '70 with a 2.2 and 928 phone dial wheels. The bodies are the same on each,
the rear trunk lid is removed, the sides of the trunk are raised, and a tail gate is added. The tailgate folds down and round tail lights are installed in the stock bumper. The rest of the car is stock. They were both painted dark brown for some reason. The -6 had painted bumpers and the -4 had chrome. The magazines are from the early '80s. I didn't keep the whole mag, just cut out the pages. One is VW Trends #3, and the other is called Porsche Classics.
Does anyone know what happened to them? Are they still out there somewhere?
