Fuel Lines

In the process of replacing my center tunnel plastic fuel lines, I am having a very difficult time finding the BEST lines to use from where the Edelman lines end at the rear of the tunnel, to the engine. Finding steel braided brake lines at retail auto stores in my area is impossible. And, I was told, using lines with NPT fittings is a rather "Crude way of doing it". I am thinking of just running flexlble fuel injection rubber hose, which has been clamped from the Edelman tube end, all the way up through the sheet metal, under the battery, to the engine fuel rail. I really appreciate all the advise all of you have given me in the past.
