Brake Light Question

Well here's another question for you guys.

I reset the master cylinder to shut up the annoying buzzer and had hoped this would resolve the brake lights that stay on when the key is turned on. Alas, they are still on.

Any ideas?

TIA

BTW, anybody got an extra one of these?

I need -1- of part 3 (and -2- part #4 screws if you are taking them off your parts car). My body shop guy lost one of mine.
I gave him 2 similiar pieces of metal to weld and make me a new one and he lost them too.

I know I know

Pick me.
Hey this is so easy. I just fixed mine.
The little switch by the brake pedal has gone askew.
If you crawl down in there you should find a little micro switch with a blade that is supposed to contact the washer attached to the brake pedal. The blade goes on top.
Actually it took me most of the day tracing wires that were good.

Joe is talking about the break light switch which is inside of the bulkhead under the break/clutch pedals. You will need to peel back the carpet and remove the wooden plate under the pedal assembly. It's held down by a couple of allen screws. I've had a couple of these switches break on me as they are not very sturdy. They usually crack around the screw hole. They cost about $20.00.

BTW, what methods have you guys used to adjust that metal tang on the switch. There really is no adjustment to these switches, except for the "bend and guess" method. My break lights don't come on now unless I just about put my foot thru the floor. There has got to be a better way.

bend and guess

This only started a week ago. The switch on mine is sturdy (not cracked) I would think there is some adjustment in the brake pedal reach rod. Haven't gotten to it as there are bigger fish to keep in the pan with this "fine german focal point of my spare time".

I believe there is a screw with a locknut on the switch itself that regulates the switch point. It's shown on page 129 of the Haynes manual, and the adjustment procedure is given there also.
