Squeak in front end
Would really appreciate any help with this one. Haven't done any suspension work on the 914 so a little inexperienced in this area.
When going over bumps, especially when its a little cold, I'm getting really loud squeaks on both front sides. To the point where it's embarresing to drive the car. I guess it must be bushings (have read previous posts on the subject) but not really sure where they are and how to replace them. Also, does the car need to be realigned after there replaced? The car doesn't have sway bars. Thanks for any help! 75 1.8 (Just passed smog here in CA!!!) |
I had horrible squeaks in the front end. I thought it was the bushings also, but turned out the torsion bars were bone dry. I removed them and lubed them up. All is quiet now.

Might check and see if maybe you have developed a crack on the inner fender wall. Mine had one on the passenger side when I bought it and it too was so loud that I had trouble enjoying driving the car. A little pricey to fix properly: remove the gas tank, and weld in a reinforcing piece of metal. My wrench charged $400.

Whenever we do a service on a teener we soak all the suspension bushings with WD-40. We also squirt the inner shock absorber components, along with their mounting positions. Just normal service that most shops haven't even thought of. OTTO
