Porsche Crest How much room in a 914?

Ok I'm thinking about buying a 914. I've never sat in one before and don't really know of anyone who owns one so I can test fit it

I am a good size guy 6' 3" and have a big gut (265lbs) I am very comfortable in my 1969 912. I am basically wondering if the 914 has about the same amount of head room and leag room as the 911/912?

Any guys out there that can help me out with this odd question?

Thanks,
Dustin

Porsche Crest

I am about the same weight, but only 6' and have enough room.
My legs are short for my body so I have room to move the seat.
The onlt problem may be, do to height, is getting in!

Enjoy
Chuck

I am 6 foot even and usually dont have the seat all the way back.
My dad is 6 ' 5 and he has no problem driving his 914...we both autocrossed for a few years and never heard him complain...bu there was this one time he had to drive a fiero for a test drive....I heard alot of new words that day !! I doubt you will have a problem with leg room or head rooom in a 914 .

I'm not quite as big as you guys but I know that in general, some pretty large dudes can and do fit in these cars.

You can put a smaller (e.g. Momo) steering wheel on the car to get a lot of extra knee room. You also may want to find a car without the center console. The consoles are cool, but they cut into knee & foot room a lot.

The other issue I hear about a lot is headroom with a helmet on, for track events. Most track driving organizations want you to run with the roof on, and that just does not leave much headroom for taller folks when you factor in the helmet. Removing the bottom seat cushion is about all you can do to help there.

Im 6'2" 240 and I fit fine. There is a lot of room in a 914 when I drive the MBZ 560 SL I always tell myself gee my 914 has so much more room for my legs and shoulders.Steve

I'm 6'4" and weigh 240 - perfectly proportioned in every way .
I had no problems in the car. You might want to consider leaving a center console out. Also, you might want to stick with the stock seat, as anything with too much of a base cushion might give you a little trouble with the roof. A friend of mine who is the same size
went to an aftermarket seat and ran (bumped?) into a little trouble with the headroom. Upon returning the stock seat into the car, the problem went away. Good luck.

Thumbs up My 2 cents

I'm 63 , 6 ft., 280 lbs , bad back, bad right hip, no trouble getting in or out! Better with the top off, just bought a center console . Will install soon. 1 wife , 2 adult kids bet me $50.00 each I would not be able to get in when I first got mine. Used the 150.00 to but acc. for the teener. Just love to get in and go! Dave

Exclamation paging Steve Iverson

i'm at work, and can't browse through PP's pictures of this past weekend's Dunkel bro's event, maybe steve's picture is in there..

do you still check this list, Steve??

Steve is ~6'6, mid 200lbs??.. BIG guy.. (he says he's only 6'5, but i call shinanagance on that, my roommate aaron's 6'4, and he has to look UP to talk to Steve)..

anyways, steve modified his 914 floor pan, basically cut the back part, tilted the floor down about an inch, and then welded additional material to close it off..

so, in conclusion, unless you're 6'6 and above, you can probably fit in the 914 without modifications..

I am 6'2" but I find that the stock seat headrest is about an inch to 2 inches to low. If I use the headrest I'm looking up (nice at traffic lights! ). Anyone have a fix for this?

Cool

I'm 6'3" and 275lbs. I have owned 3 914's and find the fit to be good. You may want to pull the stock steering wheel off and put on a smaller diameter wheel - you will want the extra room between the steering wheel and the shift lever.

If you intend to drive in competitive events you will need to take the top off. I dont fit in the car with a helmet. Even with the seat cushion removed.

The 914's are deceptive in size, aren't they guys? I just recently got my '76 914 and am rebuilding it. Well, I'd never been in one before and had only seen them up close. I could not believe how roomy they are for how small they seem from the outside. Oh yeah, and I'm 6'2" 200lb. If you're too tall though, at least we have a targa top!
