914-6 Engine Rebuild Stock vs upgrade??
 

What engine modification if any would you suggest for an original 914-6 engine rebuild to increase hp without compromising reliability and decreasing the longevity of this rare engine?

If you are just wanting to rebuild it so it is fresh and the remainder of the six is stock and numbers matching, maybe just take it to 2.2 or 2.4 with S cams or something like that. Definitely find a shop that has done a ton of them so nothing gets ruined in the process.

Swap in another Bigger motor & keep the Original stashed away

Thanks for your input and for the welcome. I was counting on both of you to be the first to respond. I have read several of your post and your perspective is always valuable.
I was leaning toward the "stash away" mentality as it is the matching engine and I would like a little additional power. (DONT WE ALL???) The engine has been essentially untouched as I have owned the car for 25 yrs.

Another question... Is there a site that will tell you the exact number engine for your car instead of the range of numbers for that year or do you just have to do the math?

The only way to find out the Engine # that is supposed to be in your car is to get a CoA ( Certificate of Authenticity) from Porsche

I am going to jump back in and add to the "stash away" suggestion. I didn't think for some reason that was an option you would consider. Stash and go with a nice 3.2.
