Father/Son Project Completed

I bought a trashed 914 some 4 years ago for my son’s 12th birthday. Our plan was to restore this car to a good looking daily driver. Well, we finished about 4 months ago and it did turnout nicely. We completely rebuild the entire drive train from engine to tranny. She boasts about 120HP now and drives wonderfully. We went with the Bursch tuned exhaust and it sounds sweet. We added 15in Fuchs, paint, and on and on...All work performed by us except paint and some machining.

Well he is 16 now and has been in so much trouble at home and in school I have decided to get rid of it. He does not deserve such a fine car. With all that said, anyone know the fair market value for such a car? I have about 5k into it, but am not interested in a profit or anything, just want it gone. Any and all comments welcome. Couple photos below:

Thanks
John

Dont sell it. Life is short. None of my buisiness but 4 years working on a car with your son should mean something. hang on to it until he actually grows up and realises his err. I have twins and they eventually wise up. Family matters more than anything in this crappy world we live in. Its all we have.

I'm sorry to hear about your son. Put the car away until he straightens out. When my son was 16 he totalled my car, dropped out of high school, and went through various issues. I was at my wit's end.

He is 19 now, works as Vet Tech (and loves his job), graduated high school (via online school) and plans to join the Navy this summer.

Don't give up on him!

If you really must sell, the car is worth well over $10K if any rust was properly adddressed and the paint/interior are very nice. I would be interested in buying if you sell.....but, you really should keep it and just hide the keys for now.

I have to agree with the others. Park and lock it and tell him until he straightens out, no 914. Park it somewhere where it is safe and no risk of him taking it. Aren't kids fun? He will straighten out and appreciate that car and all you did with him to build it. BTW, nice looking 914!

according to my calculations your son must be 27 by now. did the car sell in 2000 . from the pics you did a super job and for all that work you really saved a lot of money. That car will sell to the first person to see it. john

Well over 10K if it's as nice in all the trouble spots as it looks on the outside.
Kids, what are ya gonna do? I would also drive it just to piss him off. Maybe take it to an autocross and have a freaking ball. bring him with so he can watch you have a ball.

I agree with a lot of the others - put it away.

When my son was 16, he was such an ass-wipe that we didn't even talk for about a year. Now he's in College and a good kid

Thanks for all the replys and comments. It is nice to know that others have had simular issues. The car is tucked away in the garage and has been for sometime now. At this point, I am going to let my anger pass before I make any rash decisions. I do drive it occasionally, but I have to move two other cars to get too it so mostly it just sits.

Thanks Again...

just don't let it sit too long

be sure to put some sort of fuel stabilizer, sea foam or stabil, in it and run the thing to get the stabilized fuel through the fuel system
