Cool heating

I just bought my first 914 and I have no heat. The fan in the engine compartment works if I direct conect it. I do not get any power to it though. Does anyone have any ideas on what to check next. Its a 73 with a 1.7L.

Thanks for the help it was a ground wire at the heater switch.

Welcome to the fun world of 914s.

There is a relay board back at the engine compartment that powers the fan motor.

Also, see if you have heat exchangers for an exhaust system along with all the J-tubes, heater boxes, and other pieces you need for heat.

You will also need a Haynes manual as a reference (Available from Pelican)

incase you do not know. there is a lever that should have a red knob on it on the tunnel behind the shifter. when you pull it back it opens the heater bellow/valves. if the wire that runs from the lever to the valves is broken=no heat as the valves rest in the normally closed position. also note there is or should be a elec wire connected to the lever mounting base as well, this wire provides a ground for the aux fan. there should be large hoses between the valves and the ducts that enter the body at the rear bulk head. all of this may help presuming of course that you do have heat exch. i would also recommend auto atlanta's tech tips book (no rants please)it has lots of valuble info in a language you can understand.

Garage
nearly spring

At least down mississippi way. Today top off just cruising. Good ting too as I dropped my brand new heater valve to he ground. Boy does that sound like a blown motor as you drag it by the wire at 80 mph!
So brian if you figure it all out before next fall let me know
