914 mirror screws
anyone know what screw size, thread and pitch is in the factory side mirror nuts welded inside the doors?
i read it was a #6 metric, but the 6 X 1.0 are definitely too fine a thread. my 12 x 24 american screw goes in ok, but just slightly loose. what the heck is it, american or metric, anyone? thanks, cwl |

After multiple trips to the hardware store, I found a M6 screw worked for me.

Definately use a metric screw. It should be a 6mm but I thought all 6mm's were the same pitch. Factory screw is oval head but I could never find oval head at hardware store so flat head will have to do.

I would go ahead and spend the fifty cents to buy a pair from Wayne.
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/9144/POR_9144_MISChw_pg3.htm#item8 They are the same screws they used to hold the striker plates and door latches on beetles, buses and superbeetles.
