Porsche Crest 1973 Paint Colors

I have a question, can anyone give me the names of the paint colors for 1973? I get my 914 in 3 weeks and I want the body to be redone in the same color, which was a red.

I think Phoenix Red was one color available in 73, otherwise, most body/paint shops should be able use the paint code inside the door.

Ray is correct. Here is a cool color link to check out.

Phoenix Red is okay:

But I prefer Signal Orange!

But of course I'm biased.

My '73 2.0 is BEHIA red. Really cool color. Almost Guards red when the light hits it one way, then strong hints of orange when hit from another angle.

Hal, GREAT color, but it's actually "Bahia" red, named after the state of Bahia in Brazil.

Many of the roofs and exterior walls of the resort areas in Bahia are painted in this hue of red and other strong colors, which may or may not be how Porsche/VW came up with the name....

Phoenix Red is pretty orange. Bahia and Phoenix were the only reds in '73.

IMHO, can't lose with either one.

I have a '73 1.7.
Original color was p***y pink.
Code at bottom of door plate is "98". No other letters or numbers. Just "98".
Anybody know the name of this color?

Matt

Matt, my guess would be that your color is a paint to sample or an otherwise custom color. The Restorer's Guide doesn't have any color pink. Although I have seen a metallic rose on a teener in the past.

If the numeric digits in the color code start with a 9, that indicates that it is a metallic color.

Matt, in your case I believe that your car is actually Metallic P***y Pink.

Ha Ha

Sorry, but there was nothing metalic about the original color. Also, definitely not any shade of rose, or purple, or red. It was unmistakeably pink. Still some lurking under the upholstery.

BTW, what is the "NR" number on the Karmann plate? Number on mine is 4859593.

The NR number of which you speak is actually the production code. Let's decipher yours:

Your number is 4859593

The first two digits are the week of production. Your car was scheduled to be built in the 48th week (late November).

The next digit is the day of the week.

= Monday
= Tuesday
= Wednesday
= Thursday
= Friday
The remaining numbers are a sequential build code.
