Fuel line set up for carbs

OK here is the short story. I bought someones ten year old project. 1 Rusted out 72 1.7l, interior and motor in good shape and 1 70-71 rolling body (only 28k miles on body before it was wrecked and repaired). Both have been setting in his garage for 10 years waiting to be put together. I have the car almost all put together except for the fuel system. Since it has been setting for ten years I had to replace the fuel pump and lines. I bought a Carter fuel pump from Summit and one of those clear fuel filters. The question-- The fuel pump has 3/8" hose fittings, fuel filter has 1/4" thru 3/8". I am using the stock plastic fuel lines. The guy had one of them pluged up and the other running to a pretty crappy elec. pump. The carbs (dells) have 1/4" hose running to them. How should I run the stinking hose? 3/8" hose from the old plastic fuel lines to the filter to the pump 3/8" to a 3/8" to 1/4" tee fitting? I know it should be simple but I am having trouble with it. Thanks for any help.

To start off (and not to be a jerk, just to clearify) the feed on 70-74 is a 9mm (3/8" = 9.5mm for the most part) and the return is a 7mm ( close to 5/16") so make sure the correct line is blocked off (sounds like it is).

Soooo. have the 3/8" go to a 3/8 X 3/8 carb filter. To the pump. Then to a 3/8 X 1/4 filter to a T then to the carbs. Or use a 1/4" to 3/8" NPT barb. A 3/8" NPT 3 way union and two 1/4" to a 3/8" NPT barbs.

Or use what you have, 10 of one, half dozen of another (Or is it 6 of one and an English pint of another?).

One thing about Summit (as an aside I lived 8.4 miles from them, not a foreign car in the parking lot) the pumps they sell are mostly for 350+ cid engines. See what the rated pressure and lph is for the pump you MAY (not sure) need a regulator to tune it down for the Webers.

BTW how did you do the cool graphics?

Thanks for the info. The pump is rated at 72 gph and 4-6 psi of fuel pressure. Is this too much/too little/just right? Will I need a pressure regulator? I did the little graphic on microsoft publisher 98. Neat little program to do easy web pages.

I used the Carter fuel pump from Summit. I currently live very close to them, and they do have a lot of parts which can be used on a 914. But, thay are mostly race related .
The pump worked out great for me feeding dual 40 idf's, but, I was always on the gas. The car was primarily used for autocross. It did run a little on the rich side with the gaps opened up on the plugs. However, I can't complain. the pump worked out great.

You will want to run a fuel pressure regulator inline prior to the first carb and after the fuel pump. I always run the fuel filter before the fuel pump.

Also, replace all the fuel lines from the tank on back. Nothing is worse than a fuel leak. I don't think there is a need for a return line on a carbed motor. At least I never ran one.

Dellortos want 3 to 4 psi at the carb.
