Bee Jay's Six (continued from audio)

Bee Jay,
I don't need to worry about the CW's, my car isn't a factory six, it's a stock six. For some reason the PO spent the time and money putting in a 2.0L. I suppose I can see why, he took a factory /6 that lost a road battle and used every possable piece he could on a straight (though not rust free) /4.

If you can pick up a set of stock exchangers for $700. grab 'em now. I've seen them sell for double that on ebay and at that place in Georga.

I believe I heard about the ups and downs of the 3.0 w/ stock exchangers either on the 911 board or on the 914 Rennlist. I could be wrong, but I thought it came from Mike Z.

Mikey, you there?

Hey BeeJay,

My suggestion for the headlight motors is to pull the ends off of them and have them painted. I did this and they came out super sweet. The part of the motor that hold the shaft and the windings will still be aluminum, but the body of the motor, that big round part, which incidently houses the magnets, will really make the difference. If I get around to it, I'll pull mine from the box they're in currently (nothing like a basketcase 914!) and snap some digital pics.

Hey, Bruce Anderson addresses the 914-6 heat exchanger on 3.0 motor question on page 22 of the new (May) issue of Excellence. He says that while the 914-6 heat exchanger is not sized optimally for the 3.0, they do flow better than the stock SC heat exchangers. He even gave hp and torque numbers. I am going with 914-6 heat exchangers. I need heat and I can't afford Stainless Steel aftermarkets. Anybody know where I can find a set in excellent condition cheap? OK, how about good condition at a good price?

Having been under a friends SC, I can't imagine much else being a worse set up. Anything would be an improvement.

As BA states, carbs and stock HEs gives 210hp... Yippie.

BeeJay, You're killing me!

For everyone's information, I just called BeeJay not two weeks ago, and told him I knew where he could get a good set of heat exchangers. Seeing them come around once every two years, I gave him the phone number.

"I can't afford them right now.." Blah, blah, blah...

And now you ask where you can find a good pair? Don't ask if you're not prepared to buy...

Wayne good buddy. Is that all I have to do to kill you? Nori will hate me. For everyones info, the blah, blah, blah, was a long conversation on whether stock 914-6 exchangers would be adequate if I went with a 3.0 or larger engine. BA seems to have answered that question. I definitely couldn't afford them that day you called. I told you why. That crisis has passed, literally. So life is almost normal now.

Wow, your finances recover much better than mine, that was only about 3 weeks ago.

Call that guy with the exchangers, maybe he still has them. It's very rare to find them...
