Engine lid & trunk off?

Allright guys how do you adjust the engine lid? Mine is off mostly on the drivers side. It sits up about a 1/4 of an inch. It also has chipped my new paint on the trunk where it got hung up abit when opening. NOT COOL:mad: I need to fix this asap & can't tell
if there are some adjustment places I have missed seeing. Please help:confused:

I'm pretty sure there isn't any adjustment stock.

I'm betting that on of the L-shaped brackets welded onto the firewall on your car is cracking. Happened to both of mine eventually. A competent shop should be able to weld them back up again--they crack at the bend in the L.

Or the hinge is tweaked

The left hinge of my engine lid got twisted when I was taking the lid off (I left one side on and was taking the right off when the nut came off and the lid dropped free. That tweaked the left hinge. Lesson learned: Always support both sides of the lid when removing it.) Fortunately it wasn't so messed up that it couldn't be straightened out.

Additionally, the hinges have a bit of fore/aft play. Make sure that the hinge is fully forward against the firewall when tightening. That may also account for your gap. Is the front of the lid pretty much flat and snug up under the rear window drip gasket?

Or, like Dave said, your L-bracket may be broken.

**Oops, I just re-read your post, and you say that the lid rides high on the driver's side. I would check the L-bracket first.

I cut slots in my hinge so that it slides on and off by just loosening the bolt. One side benefit was to cut the slots a little deper than the stock hole so I could adjust it fore and aft.
