I tried a camcorder (Panasonic) a couple of years ago but was unhappy with the narrow field of view. The camera has electronic image stabilization so there was no fuzzyness in the image. It was also hard to start recording with it sitting behind my head. I finally bought a mini 12 volt "spy" type color camera with a 90 degree field of view and a 12 volt recorder. I got them from a place called Supercircuits which is in Texas and on the web. The videos are much better and I can see the full dash and my hands and feet when driving as well as the cars in front. If you use a camcorder, make sure it is mounted solidly and has a safety strap. Good luck.

I have used a Sony Mini-DV camera with image stabilization with good results. The camera was mounted on a harness bar and i/o port video camera mount. Send me an email and I can sent you an mpg sample if you like.
