1.7L motor problems

How do I get this stupid thing to TDC so I can put in my new dist. and elec. ignition? The mai problem is that it hasn't ran in about five years and it is not in the car. ??????????? Pry on the fan (I know not a good idea)?? And which way does it turn? My project is complete except for this last thing, so I am getting to the point. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/frown.gif. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/frown.gif. Well you can just guess. I have been working on it for so long and I just want to drive the stupid thing!!! http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

what ever you do don't pry on the fan!! The finns are fragile and I think if you break them it throws off the balance. Go to the hardware store and get some long bolts you can screw in where the pressure plate bolts go. Sometimes it helps to slide a piece of pipe over the bolt. This will help keep the bolt from bending when using a pry bar to rotate the assm. It also helps to pull the plugs. Good luck.

Don't have my books (again) but look on the tin ware for the firing order. Then turn the fan so the rotor goes in that order. With the plugs out I can usally turn the flywheel by hand (not without scars mind you, but it IS possible) the idea of bolts in the PP holes is a good one, just don't make them too long or they may snap.

For TDC with the motor out: 1. Look down the #1 plug hole, you should be able to see the piston, at the same time make sure the dizzy is pointing toward the #1 tower (or the little "tick" mark on the dizzy housing) this confirms that you are on the compression stroke of #1 (you can also put your finger in there and feel the compression). 2. Look on the flywheel for a deep slash mark. Line this up with the center line of the case while the dizzy is pointing at #1 and that is DTC.
