Best spark plug socket for 914-4?
I had to pull a spark plug on a friend's 914 today and, as always seems to happen to me on 914s, both the 13/16" socket and the plug fell off into the abyss within the engine tin.
This got me wondering, what is the best plug wrench for the 914-4? Was there a factory tool for the 4-cylinder cars? Will the factory 911 tool work well on the threaded-tip 914 plugs? |
I use a locking extension--a good one; most of them don't seem to lock very effectively. Before I found that extension (in a Snap-On truck!) I used a socket with a universal joint on the end (built in), that way I can tilt the extension when I pull the socket out, which seems to help keep the socket from coming off the extension.
You can also thread a wire through the U-joint as a backup; if the socket comes off the extension you can just pull the wire to get the socket out. --DD |
If we're talking about a 2.0L engine, I have been using a spark plug tool from a 944 very successfully. If you see one, you'll know what I mean. What makes it even better is that 944 tools can be had real cheap :D
