IMI Performance Products high torque starter

Good morning

If anybody has installed this starter in a 914 2.0 could give me feedback I'd appreciate it.

Were there any issues with the install? Are you satisfied with the performance? I want this to be the last starter I put in my 74 914. Thank you

Frank

Hi Frank,
Just googled the name and this looks exactly like the one I install several years ago on my 914 racer. This spins my high compression engine really well even when hot. I'd go for it.

Let me know what that part number is... I may need this for my high compression motor as well.

Does our host sell one?

Many years ago I used a high torque starter and I think it was one of these? That was back around 1998 or 1999 or so and it was great. One thing I did find was there were two models for type 4 engines, one for busses and one for 914s as their bellhousings are different sizes and the first one was for a bus (long ?) that jammed the first time I tried it. ORW replaced it for no charge and it was also used for my six when the conversion was completed in 2002. If you get one make sure it will work with 914s specifically though.

From what I remember when we bought mine, the deciding things were the 901 transmission and the distance from the starter mount flange to the flywheel teeth. The number/spacing of the teeth did not seem to matter for some reason? We found that most sixes and six conversions that used the 901 trans and flywheel combo used the same starter as the four cylinder cars??!!

starter number

I dug through my paperwork and found the receipt for the starter. I bought it from our host. It's still available as Part# PEL-GE-STHT and it's less expensive now. Go figure.
