rusty gas tank

I have a gas tank that I think is rusted on the inside. The filler has a layer of rust on the inside. It has some wierd fuel delivery issues, but that may just be vaporlock.

I heard once of a coating that you could put on the inside of the tank to fix this problem. Has anyone heard of this... and if not maybe a plce to look.

Not sure if Pelican carries this, but the POR 15 kit has gotten some good reviews. I know a few people here have used it. Here is the link:

It's really good stuff-easy to use. The kit comes with a rinse, etcher, and polymer coating. It's good, thick stuff that is supposed to last forever.

I had the same problem with mine - 43k car that was in storage for a long time. Ended up creating
a host of problems. I would strongly suggest that you dont drive it until its corrected. The tank should be taken out, boiled out if its bad and treated. While your doing that replace the fuel lines under the tank and fuel filter. There is also a strainer sock in the tank that you should replace - comes out from the bottom of the tank.
Work around is to use 2 fuel filters if you cant find 1. Im sure thats clogged too. Good way to fry your pump. If Pelican dont have the part try AA. I used a guy in conshohocken PA - East Coast Radiator - sorry no phone number on his invoice. charged
$75 to clean and seal the tank. He use a product that is is a red rubber liquid to reseal the tank - dont recall whats its called. His name is Tom - I would highly recommend that over any other product. Might be a good time to think about relocating your fuel pump if its 74 and below.
If you have the extra $180 replace the pump.
