Transmission rebuild

Hi there, I am thinking about getting my trans rebuilt, it is a 73 sideshift. I don't have the usual hedaches, as I can easily shift into first on the move, it rarely grinds. However when I shift into second from first too quick or after revving hard the gear grinds just a bit it also does this down shifting, and it is just a little hard to get into third. I am being careful right now as I assuming its just synchros and I don't wan't to wreck the gears. Also their is just an ever so slight whine from the tranny only when maintaining cruise throttle, not under accel or deceleration. The transmission fluid is fresh and full. I am assuming that this would be the most basic of rebuilds (Just synchros etc..) So my main question is how much should I expect to pay if I bring the tranny to a shop already out of the car and also does anyone know of a reputable shop in the Sacramento area who could perform this for me. Thanks

The whine might be a wheel bearing. But a fresh tranny is always nice.

I live in Canada so I'm not sure what the price for a rebuild would be there but here they are $800 to $1200 dollars re+re. Depends. that would be $500 to $750 of yours.Bearings and gears seem to a little pricey no matter where you get them. But we pay all kinds of duty at the border and shipping and crap on top of the price of our parts. So who knows?

The shift problem could be anyhting from bent shift forks to bad shift linkage(not in the tranny) to synchros etc.
Guess that doesn't answer much. Hope I didn't confuse the matter.
