ok john here is my best shot at a description. The wire is used to add tension to the push rod tubes . It does this by actually looping beneth each push rod location and touching the bottom lip of the tube. It is held in place by the rocker are stand blocks an a slight indentation on each side of the head. The wire soes have a left and right end. If the rockers are installed properly then the slot will face down. With the rockers installed you can simply line up the steps in the wire with the push rod tube locations and the slots in the rocker arm stand blocks. The wire will snake a path from left to right below the rocker arms. Slide the steps into the push rod tube bores allowing the wire to rest on the bottom lip of teh tube avoiding contact with the push rod. Force, under tension, the upper steps in the wire into the slots in the rocker stand and allow the ends to rest in the head. hope this helps...I will look for a decent picture to help...scott

I was told from the shop, "FAT PERFORMANCE" that did my head work that this wire was no longer required. The wire, as I understand it, is to retain the push rod tubes in thier proper place. I hope they were right! I would appreciate any other comment you fine folks have on this topic??

john911sc,

Scott is correct about the wires. They maintain slight tension on the push rod tubes so they stay in alignment with the cups on the push rods.

With standard rockers and push-rods the wire is necessary.

Haynes or CLymer manual should have picks showing the correct orientation, but Scotts description is accurate.

Good Luck,

If the tubes are installed by the book, with only oil on them, the wire is needed.

We toss the wire and use loctite 518 or permatex teflon pipe thread sealant on the tubes, they never leak, or move.
