Throttle switch location and test process
I have a 914 L-jetronic 1.8 liter engine that starts rumble idols for 5 seconds and dies; no response from opening the throttle. Appears its running on fumes from the cold start valve. I opened the injectors placed them in a plastic bag reconnected the electrical connectors and turned over the engine.....no fuel came out of the injectors. I want to check the throttle switch, per the Haynes 914 manual ,with an ohmeter but cannot find the throttle valve switch. It is supposed to be in the throttle valve housing but I do not see anything that resembles an electrical switch....only a brown connector directly below the cold start valve, which I think is the thermoswitch. Where is the throttle valve switch? Thanks

The throttle valve sits to the left of the rear of the manifold. The throttle switch is underneath the throttle valve.
Does your fuel pump run when you open the flap in the air flow meter? --DD |
Yes, the fuel pump runs with the air sensor flap up.

Hey Birdieman. Did you ever come up with a solution to this problem? I have the same problem not. Start it, run for a second and die. It also will not respond to throttle inputs before it dies. If I unplug the throttle switch, the car will run. Rough, but it will run and it will respond to throttle inputs.
Thanks for your help. |
