Question VW Brake Tee

I would like to get the VW Brake Tee to replace my proportioning valve on my 914. Does anyone know where to buy along with part number, etc....?

Thanks,
Tom

Check with your VW dealer...
...pretend you have a Vanagon (on those I know for sure they have T's that fit your brake lines). Find a page that shows the rear brake system. The T on the Vanagon is installed a bit left of the center on the fire wall - very similar to where the valve is located on the 914. Post the part # here, since other's might be interested in getting the same part.
You could also check on your salvage yard... This is were I found mine.

Patrick,
What did the T do to your braking? My 2.0 brakes feel kind of mushy (so does the rest of th car, its all original) I've bought the 19mm master cylinder upgrade and new brake lines, not installed yet, but I read that the heart of the problem is the P valve.

Can't provide you with first hand experience at this point...
But I have the same problems - mushy feel in combination with not so great breaking power.
I have all the stuff that is recomended here on the BB and known to improve the situation. I reacently finished a rebuild of my spare rear brake calipers - they look like new and will not leak (so I hope) ... they go in my car this weekend.
A few weeks ago I got a nice set of ATE calipers from a BMW 320i and the Vanagon T. I will modify the calipers so they fit my 73 struts and switch the valve with the T when those calipers go in. IIRC it is not recomended to switch valve with a T if you do not increase the brake performance on the front axle.

Just ask for the rear brake line tee, any type II, 1968-79.

I went to one of those junk yards where you take the parts off yourself. All of the VW bugs had the "T" on them. It is located on top of the transmission, and splits the rear brakes. It is much easier to remove if the engine is out of the bug first.

I found a much better "T" on a Mercedes Benz 240D. It was made by ATE and the quality of the part is great. It has a strong mounting tab cast into it. It was also used to split the rear brakes, but I can't remember where it was located on the car.

If you cannot find one I have a few of the bug ones. If you email I will send you one.

I got carried away at the junk yard and took the "t" off of every bug in the place.

brake tee

I have a BMW E21, first of the 3 series. They also have a couple of T's that are the same ATE as VW. In the engine bay up against the firewall.

Tony...
I got both of mine from Vanagon's mostly because I know where they are located. I'm sure Austin VeeDub has some cars were you could take one off.
If I find my spare T you can pick it up for free...
... I just need one.
