Spacers/adapters and flares questions
Hi to all, as you probably know, i am presently fitting custom (OEM replica) GT flares on my 914. Already have some 993 17" alloys. While testing some measurements last night, i noticed that with a 1 1/4" spacer at the rear, i only need a 1 inche or so movement from the stock fender to fit the 9' wheel. The front 7,5" is fitting fine with only a 7/16" spacer. Hence, eliminating the need for huge GT flares (for a while at least! Summer is here as you know!). Ill obvioiusly need bigger spacers/adapters when i do the move to GT flares.
Question#1: how far can a stock fender be streched? and how to? Question#2: whats the maximum spacer/adapter thickness to remain safe? Question#3: do you use Lock-tite (red or blue) on the nuts to secure the adapters? Question#4: do you know a set-up like mine? If so, what spacer thickness do they sue? Questions#5: any tips to share? Many many thanks

farleyd,
How are those flares coming. I have heard many opinions on spacers. Mostly people say not to use them. Well, my 944 has them straight from the factory on the rear. They are at least 1/2 inch if not more so that must be considered safe. I have asked some local road racers and they say as long as you get 9 turns and you have good studs, spacers are okay. I stretched my fenders with a baseball bat. I had just planned on rolling the inner lip but then I realized they would stretch a little if I kept trying. Good Luck!!!

Hey! Nice Rack! "Celette"

I think your wheel fit has alot to do with your choice of wheel. I'm running 15"X 8" Fuchs copies with 125mm wheel spacers. I have Glas flares. I really could have moved the rear flares out another 1/2". But they work. I know what you mean about summer coming. Don't bit off more than you can handle this time of year.

Farley, weren't you hammering out your flares from scratch? If so, how's it going?
