914-6 heat exchanger
Help! I had planned on getting the ss heat exchangers/headers combo from Windward Engineering, but now I'm scared because of the negative feedback they have received in the 911 forum. Does any one else have such a creature?
I could, but do not really want to fabricate a system. Suggestions??

Have you considered the GHL system sold by Pelican?

B&B makes SS headers / heat exchangers, but I've had very bad luck with mine - the welds are beautiful, but the fit sucks, you have to be a contortionist to bolt them on, and the heater boxes hemorrage air. Worst purchase I made in the project.

Talk to BMW guys about B & B headers. Actually, you don't even have to talk to them--just check out one of the BMW mags or Internet sites, and see month-old systems being sold at 70% of purchase price!

Thanks Mike. I rather not use stock since the motor has been tweeked a bit. Now I've got to figure out how to configure a heat riser for the MFI.

Funny reading about the high quality of the B+B product.
The factory heat exchangers work just fine for engines all the way to a 3.2. Many people are running them on 225hp carb'd 3.0's The ones I have came off of a 245hp carb'd 3.0. We tested before and after on the chassis dyno. They made a whopping 7 hp difference between them and a set of headers. We didnt need heat.... B |
