Question About Dwell Meter Use

I have been coddled with electronic ignition for many years so have a question about using my old dwell meter.... Other than the obvious two battery leads, where does the coil lead go?

Uh... not quite clear here.

By 'coil lead' do you mean a clip that looks like it would slip over a spark plug wire?

Most multimeters do several things besides measure the dwell and that 3rd lead slips over the #1 plug wire.

The red lead attaches to the negative post on the coil (it is labeled with a "1" and the condensor wire from the dizzy runs to it.)

The black lead is grounded anywhere you want on the frame/motor.

Hmmm... I guess technology has changed in the last 25 years since I bought this thing! ;) This has two battery cables and a yellow lead with an alligator clip. Maybe what I really need to do is go get a new meter. I think its time!

The negative post is what I need I think. Like I say, it's been a long time!! :)

Negative post on the coil is what I use...
