Hello I am working on a 1.7L fuel inj system (1973 engine) D-tronic...I put it into a 1975 914 car... everything looks good...wanted to start and it fired and shutdown...I cleaned distributor contacts ..new points, cap, plugs... I checked fuel inj wires with noid light...ONLY #1 shows firing? Any help would be appreciated !!Thanks

#1 spark plug or #1 fuel injector?
If it's an injector, i'd suggest checking continuity to the ground points at the lug on the center of the engine (under air filter). |
Jared...thanK you..yeah one of the ground wies was off...I now have three injectors giving fire...#2 is not?? I did a continuity test for the ground on one of the #2 terminals that was ok...not sure where to go now? thanks in advance for advice :-)

There is a set of points in the distributor that fires the fuel injectors 2 at a time. If you have three injectors firing and one is not, you have a short or broken wire somewhere. It's pretty common in a wiring harness that old. |
You can get "rebuilt" (99% new) FI wiring harnesses here:

Jared..OK... went out to check wiring tonight ...pulled the grey boot back and guess whatn I found :-) ......yep broken wire...you are great!..now I hope it starts :-)... thanks again !!!
Dave thank you for the info..and the pics of your car ...nice ... Hey what kind of MPG do you get? Maybe you would like to enter in The Watkins Glen Green Grand Prix.???...I am on the board. There are two days of fuel economy one on WGI track and the other through the Finger Lakes,NY. |
I get crappy economy--20 MPG--in my 914. Or did when I drove it, at least. ;) It is currently hibernating but should be coming out soon. I was getting low- to mid-40s from the CRX for the past few years (until I sold it late last year), and the MINI is currently in the low 40s.
I'm a wee bit far away to make the WGGGP, though WG is a terrifically fun track! --DD |
I used to get 25-30MPG in my 1973 1.7L. It all depends on how you drive it.

Wow ..I thought the 914 would do better? I have a Triumph GT6 that gets 26mpg.

I helped put a 350 in a GT6 once. Fun times.
FYI, Bosch D-Jetronic is actually easier to figure out than SU or Stromberg carbs. |
