MSD 6AL Report
As some may recall, I installed an MSD 6AL in my car.
A few other things went in also: A Blaster Coil, Magnecore wires, colder plugs (gapped to .05) an RS spec dizzy, and the Pertronics from my old dizzy. I pulgged in a 7K rev limiter chip into the MSD. This last friday night, I got it running. Saturday I set the timing and went driving. The car starts much better and runs smoother "off the bump". Tough to quantify, but my butt told me it was much better. Ax on Sunday was the first opportunity to really lean on it. On my 4th run, it seemed to be hitting the rev limiter earlier..... I wuz having trouble finding good shift points on the course.... I can't seem to find time to look at the tach.......stuff is still happening too fast. Anyhew, my last 2 runs were my quickest, but the motor seemed "soft"......must be a lesson here. I got it home and into the shop. As it's idling, I hear a clicking noise that disappears with another 200 rpm......it's comming from the dizzy area.Uh,oh.....off with the cap and rotor. Hummm.... what's this? The rotor's been hitting something. Apparently, either the Pertronics unit came loose, or I didn't set the gap properly.....in either case, its riding on the rotor base. Just damn lucky nuthin broke. The gap to the magnet thingy was non-existent. Had to go to work, so I haven't looked at it any more. Can anyone tell me the thickness of the plastic thingy used to set the Pertronics gap.....I lost mine. Prolly oughta' do it right this time. |
Lost mine too, it's .030" :)
Is it undamaged? - I have heard feedback that they can be fragile. |
