914 linkage question
 

Hi,
I am trying to assemble linkage on 914..I have a new nylon bushing seems to go into the body where the shifting rod comes out...Is there a trick installing this little bugger ? thanks for any advice

silicone spray and a big hammer. Good luck.

I also heated up the bushing in boiling H2O to make it my pliable (cooperative).

The old bushing is out already, right?

Don't try to install the new one around the shift rod. The bushing has to deform slightly to go into place, and it can't with the rod going through the middle.

Heating the bushing in hot water will soften it slightly and can make it go into place more easily.

I have heard of people cutting a slice through the bushing to install it, but that seems like an invitation for dirt and grit to work its way in and cause problems.

Thank you all for the advice on this bushing issue...tried and big,bigger,biggest hammer.... found words I forgot :-)....went to the grinder...small trim..and got it to pop in seems snug...I woud have liked to try heated water idea...just checked too late ---thanks again

I put my bushings in a cup of antifreeze then microwaved them, they pushed into the body with no cussing at all.
