904 style combo kit
 

Hi all, does anyone know how much the 904 kit which is no longer available cost from Pelican when they had them?

The kit was just over $100, as I recall. Maybe $110? You had to also locate a 914 combo gauge and a 911 combo gauge, plus the appropriate senders.

Palo Alto Speedometer Inc. has a 914 Triple Cluster for the asking, if you happen to have $650 burning a hole in your pocket.

I recently purchased a 904 kit for $150. Unless you already have a 911 guage and sender, buy the Palo Alto guage. Better yet, Getty dash, buy the 911 guage at a swap meet, and have money left over.

Just curious, but why do you recommend the $650 setup if you don't have a 911 combo gauge already? I was able to pick up a 911 gauge for cheap at a local swap meet; I think it ran me $20 or maybe $35 a few years back. There were ones going for less than that at the Don & Glenn swap meet this past Sunday.

Aw, shucks; I wasn't recommending that cardiac-arresting-priced cluster. Would rather color-match my gauges to my underwear for THAT price, than use the balance to buy a set of tires.

I was just pointing out what the unimaginative, less-than-creative individual would be paying for the same solution being played out right here.

Hmmm...last time I checked, North Hollywood's brand new triple was only $450. See, I already saved you $200....:p

Does North Hollywood have website? I have a newer tach and speedo, but an older combo gauge. I would really like the triple cluster.

They can also do quadruple gauges (adds a voltmeter) and custom gauges. I have had good experiences with them over the years, in fact my tach is there now to get a face lift (the orange needle had faded nearly to tan and the black face to gray).

I always try Pelican first, and they do have a gauge rebuild program, but I was told they don't do the cosmetic stuff....

These are the required parts for for assembling the kit that I recieved.
one 911 pressure/temp guage
sender for above guage
One early 911 guage with silver trim button
One early (pre 73 914 gas gauge)
The assembly of the guage is critical. You have to drill out the light tubes from the existing guages and epoxy them to the gauge backing assembly supplied with the kit. Since ground is supplied to the bulbs through the light tube, a mistake here means no warning light or back light. Even using the wire wheel, I had a difficult time getting continuity to the back plate. I ended up using belt and suspenders by soldering the tubes in and then expoy.
The kit wanted to be put together with an early gas gauge. I had to modify the guage back plate so that I could use a post 72 gas guage.
The guages have to be trimmed to accomdate the light tube extensions for the oil, alt, and brake lights. This was the most tedious part; cut, assemble, disassemble, trim, reassemble, repeat.
I'm happy with the result, but it still looks like a kit. Add up the cost of the parts and I think the difference is about between purchasing the gauge from Palo Alto is about $200. Add in the cost of your time hunting the parts down and assembly and it's not that much of a difference. It puts the Getty dash solution in reach.

Where did you get your kit? I checked with NH Speedo and they said they don't sell the kit. Just the complete conversion. I saw a thread here a week or so ago about the triple guage but didn't save it. Anyone have a link to that thread? I tried a search but no luck.
