fuel pump leaking?
I've got an early (three port) FI fuel pump relocated to the front by the steering rack. Lately there has been some fuel leaking from that area. I had the car raised up so I could have a look through the round access hole. With the car running there was nothing obvious. With the fuel pump only running there still was nothing obvious. The hoses are not very old so I don't suspect them.
Question: do the fuel pumps leak with age? Last edited by Jeff Nelson; 04-29-2002 at 08:30 AM.. |

I wouldn’t say the pumps are prone to leaking, but they can.
There are 5 places fuel could leak from on the pump: 1. The o-ring between the motor and the pump head. I doubt this is it. 2. The pressure relief valve on the side of the pump head. That’s possible. 3., 4., 5. Any of the port hoses may be loose. Another possibility is that fuel may be leaking from somewhere else, running down the outside of the hose going to the fuel pump, and making it look like the pump is leaking when it’s really not.

On my 72 1.7L it started to leak out of the pressure relief valve. Once I had it out it was pretty easy to fix. But if you can afford it just put in a new one while you have it out.
