Cheap And Cheerful Exhaust
Any suggestions for a cheap, cheerful and temporary exhaust for my 1974 1.8. My present (and awfull 4-tip Monza) has given up the ghost and I want a cheap alternative until I build up my new big bore motor. I have been told that the muffler from a camper van can be fitted?
Thanks ![]() |

Not sure if available in the UK but a flowmaster muffler for a Camaro..... 2 in 2 out with some creative pipe bending should work....

If you don't mind welding to the ends of the heat exchangers.... you can take the car to a cheap muffler shop and have them make up a custom exhaust for you.
I did this for my 75 1.8L and I think I paid about $100 for the set up... I asked them to make it as quiet as they could given the limited space with the Cat Converter. Came out about the same sound level as stock but with a more agressive note. Cost for the Cat is extra if you need one. Car may not pass you local smog with a "modified" exhaust.... I failed the visual at one site here in CA and the second site did not care at all. Both exchangers, Cat and muffler all come off and go on as one piece now.... no trouble with the set up after 2 years. - Dave |
