TOO Rigid??
Do you guys think that the more you tighten up your 914 the harder it will be on the car causing more structural problems? By tightening up the car I mean stiffer springs, shocks, sway bars, or racing suspension bushings. More structural problems meaning added stress on the weaker points of the frame. (Just for driving the car on the street.)
If you upgrade from stock springs to say 140 or 180 springs (or 19mm sway bars vs 22mm)wouldn't that mean the frame and all the welds would have to take more stress since you have taken away the soft springs/soft shocks which used to dampen the shock of bumps and uneven pavement?? I just sometimes wonder about the 30 year old frames being able to stand up to the test....... What do you guys think?? Alex |

I think a good rule is that the stiffer the suspension gets, the harder it is on the rest of the car, such as welds, seams, joints, engines, transmissions, electrical components, etc. For example on our nearly stock 914 mothing ever comes lose or vibrates out or replays faile, etc. But on the race car with 23mm front bars, 300# rear springs, Koni Sport shocks, every thing comes lose unless it is lockwired or doubple nutted! Of course I don't drive it on the street much. Good luck.

John
You think the street would be easier on the car with the stiffer suspension? Thanks for the reply! Alex |
