Open Track Challenge...Turbo 914/6?
I don't know if you guys have heard of this event, but
its kind of like the one lap of america except on the west coast. <http://www.opentrackchallenge.com/> anyway, it just finished and a white 914-6 with a can am body on it (and supposedly a 3.3L turbo engine) finished first place overall...any one know this car or anything about it? The drivers last names are Ondrack, Salter. Here are a couple of sites with commentary on the first few days of the event: <http://www.onelapadventure.com/otcstartingline.html> (this one has a couple pics of the white 914, and it looks like there is a red one racing also) and here: <http://www.pulpracing.com/otc_results.htm> Any one got any info on this car...seen it before? More curious than anything... - Tony |
Here is a pic of the car...also, I think they said that the owner was in Arizona.

The car looks similar to the 914-6 turbo that was featured in Excellence a few years ago...I believe he was running a much smaller motor at the time the article was written......I do know the car was for sale a few years ago also.

My friend Matt, along with some other friends ran a 1987 RX7 Turbo II in that race and won the Touring 4 category. There's a great web page of a team that was running a Mini S in the same category. It gives a story for each of the tracks along with some nice pictures, including some 914s in the unlimited category.

Yea, I actually linked that same site also...some good pics and it seems like it was a good battle between the mini and the Rx7...
I wish I could find some more info on the 914/6 ... seems like a pretty sweet racer, kinda supprised that no body knows anything about this car. Tony |
Mike is right. It was featured in excellence a while back. Basically a tube frame mid engine car using a 914 floor pan and some fiberglass body work. Not much of the 914 is left.
