Brake Caliper Rebuild Kit, what are the little tin pieces for?

Hi guys. Got my caliper rebuild kits today. There are some odd shaped tin pieces in the kit, kinda "L" shaped with a hole in the middle. Anyone know what these are for? No instructions with the kit.

Could they be the "anti-squeal" devices that go between the piston and the pad? Or are they a measuring tool to insure you get the pistons at the correct angle?

WTF?????

Could those parts be the piston retaining plates? They fit between the piston and the pad, don't know about any anti-squeal action they might provide.
