Rally Pictures
Another nice day in SC for a Rally.
Bruce brought a beautifull '71 914 conversion with a 2.7 RS MFI motor. It was a bunch of fun accelerating and comparing the 2.7 vs the 3.2 DME . What was really fun was hearing the Boxster folks say how hard it was to keep up ![]()

JP,
Good question, The results: The 2.7 was able to stay with the 3.2 until about the middle of 3rd gear. However, both motors could be tuned a little more. I hope to go thru the motor, add 3.4 pistons and jugs, different headers, and tune the FI.

My wife and I competed in our first rally yesterday. (Yes, we are still speaking to each other.) It was a lot of fun and took a lot of concentration. We finished sixth overall, out of 16 cars.
My car was the only 914 in the rally. The other cars consisted of one 944, one Boxster and the rest different years and versions of the 911 (couple of 996s, couple of 993s, SCs, etc.) The interesting thing was that my car seemed to be getting most of the attention from the crowd before and after the rally. Same thing happened on Saturday night at the CVR cruise night in Danbury. We had four 914s show up, all Pelican participants. Not to say that we got all of the attention (there were a couple of very nice Speedsters and a very well-equipped Twin Turbo), but it seemed there was a lot of interest in the 914s. Every one I spoke with was very nice and seemed to be genuinely curious about our odd little Porsches. And, I didn't experience any of the NARP attitude. I was told on Sunday that they had 50 Porsches show up on Saturday night. Most of the 911s have blended together in my memory. I guess sometimes it's nice to be different. |

Thanks,Jim. An interesting matchup....er.. comparison.
My DD is a 93 Mr.2 Turbo. Where ever I go, all these ricers want to "compare" I don't drive "ulf" on the street all that much, but when I do, no one wants to compare.........go figure. I had a similar "problem" with a 58 Vette I built up back in the early 70s. Come to think of it, this car and that one have a lot in common. Maybe I need to get out more on Saturday nights.

I think the flares look great and the color, I think it is L21C, turquoise, a special order 911 color. Looks like the same color as my '88 Carrera. Never have seen another car in that color.

Bleyseng,
What you don't see in the pictures are 2 oil coolers that are mounted into the front bumper of the red car. For some silly reason, I spent hours cutting and grinding away the thick metal as to custom fit the coolers. Not sure if I would ever do it again, but it does keep the oil temps around 220 on the track.

Are those 911S flares on the blue car? They look an awful lot like the one's on mine (still on jacks, but getting there). And if they are, what kind of rocker panels does he have, custom? Hard to tell from the picture, but they seem to flare. Couple of fine looking specimens by the way

Special K,
The rockers are custom, they match the flares which I think are SC or Carrera. Much cheaper that the 914 flares.
