Power Antenna
Haven't put the antenna back on my car after painting and I wanted to put on a power antenna that comes up only when the radio is on. Went to the FLAPS and they wanted $40 for a unit... but the motors on these things were massive and heavy.
Does anyone make a unit that is lighter and more compact or is the bulkiness standard for these power antennas? - Dave |

I looked into power ants. a few years ago and was not happy with a big weight hanging off the body inside the fender. I remember finding one that had a semi remote motor: there was a standard looking antenna piece with a cable that fed to the motor. I imagined you could mount the motor near the gas tank and run this cable through the body. The cable translated the motor action to the antenna. I can't remember, but probably saw it through Crutchfield or JC Whitney. I ended up going with the basic manually telescoping antenna that sports "automatic" action when I reach out the window and push it up.

Hirschman makes a much smaller unit the than what Porsche sells. I found a blck mast unit for my 83 911 cab. Goes up when radio is turned on.
For my 914 I filled the antenna hole and mounted a hidden antenna under the dash. Much cleaner looking. Craig C. Laughlin CAMP 914 |

I just put a chrome Hirschman on my car. It's often advertised as a 911 antenna but it fit the 914 just fine and looks stock when retracted. It's model AUTA-2040. It's a little longer than the original antenna but I absolutely love the automatic up and down. It makes putting the cover on much easier.

I found my black antenna at a place called Stereo King here in Portland Oregon. $32.00.
Also saw the one's on ebay. He seems to have a good supply. |
