Engine Grill Project
Last couple of days have allowed me to finish a few upgrade projects on Turtle my 914. Old rusty engine grill after all the dents were hammered out,Sanded and a few fresh coats of enamel paint. I have installed the VW emblem as a joke for the local VW club but I like it. All letters and emblems are polished Silver and no Gold anywhere on the car.

Tough to tell from the pic--it looks like regular "expanded metal". The original was flat, with the holes punched through it (probably on some sort of die press).
Since this isn't a super-duper original setup, I'm guessing that isn't that important to you. But just in case... Anyway, it looks cool! The VW logo is an amusing touch. You might be able to scare up a European VW-Porsche logo for the rear panel too if you look. --DD |
This is the factory grill with a refinish. I am looking for a emblem you are speaking of now. The early black ones were painted and should polish up well. I also did a radio delete plate on the dash and wanted to put something there - 914 in silver ?

the good news is that the VW emblem qualifies you for entry & show in most VW only events !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was the ticket I was looking for with the VW emblem. I have been suprised at how many parts were VW on this car and then to find out they were built at the Wolfsburg VW plant. I just cracked up. I found a lot of good info here
Porsche 914 and 914-6 Authenticity and Restoration Information @ P914 |
The cars were built at the Karmann factory in Osnabruck, not in Wolfsburg. I believe that VW had recently bought the factory, shortly before the 914 entered production, though.
