My dads 1970 Signal Orange 914-6
Hello! I am a new member! Just thought I would share my dads 914-6. He bought in 1972 I believe. The car hasn't moved in 33 years. Has the original blue California plates.
Believe it or not, the tires have held air for over 20+ years! The car is very original except for the 70's era American Racing Alloys. I plan on fully restoring the car with my father in brother in the next few years. I believe the car has minimal to 0 rust. I hope when we register it in the future, we can keep the blue plates. The car has 45,000 original miles. The interior is in overall nice shape. The dash isn't cracked but has some slight warpage.

Couldn't have asked for a better color!
What happened to the headlight covers?

Good question. I am sure my dad removed them 20 years ago and misplaced them....
The front bumper is also off the car. I believe I have an extra from when I had a 914-4. I am sure the lenses are gone. But I would probably replace them with the Genuine Euro style markers anyways. This car is at my dads old house/shack. The carburetors and manifolds are also off the car. I found a set in the garage along with an extra air cleaner and set of manifolds. My dad says those are spares he purchased at a swapmeet. He says the original should be around somewhere... I just realized I never opened the front hood... I wonder what is in there....Hopefully carburetors, lenses, head light covers, Jimmy Hoffa, and pile a cash he forgot about LOL. I hope I can keep the blue plate. If not, I will get a custom plate to same numbers as the original blue plate. -Marco V |

Oh. If you are wondering about the cars to the left and right. The covered car is a very original and pristine Alfa Romeo GTV-6 and a 750iL.

Carbs will be pricey if they can't be found...the other stuff shouldn't be too bad.

I had a similar situation with my dads Camaro about 4 years ago. He hadn't registered it in 10 years and it had fallen off the DMV computers (in CA). When I went to register the car the DMV told me I had to replace the license plates. I was persistent in telling them that I wanted to keep the original blue plates because they made the car more authentic and they finally relented and had me write an appeal which they filed with the DMV. Ultimately they let me keep the original plates.
Ultimately it adds value to keep those plates, so don't give in easily. |

How cool is that! I love that it is still in your family. I see no reason that you would not be able to keep the original plates on the car.
As soon as you get it into the day light, take a bunch of pictures and thrill us all. Good luck and I look forward to seeing this car returned to the road.

The plates and paperwork do NOT let the DMV have any of this stuff, give them copies but NOT the originials...ever!
You will never see them again.
