Does anyone use a bike/ski rack on their car. I'm interested in if you like it, specifically how it attaches to the car, if you think it has a chance of damaging the car, and any other factors I'm not considering. My 914 is my daily driver and I'm thinking about using it to transport my bike.

I thought about getting a second thrasher targa top and then directly bolting a bike carrier mount to it. I wouldn't want to use a trunk mounted carrier since they usually have to touch the paint.

I have always wondered if one could use a pair of 'rain-gutter' type Yakima towers to grab either side of the rear lid near the front. They have rubber parts that touch the paint.
This arangement would use just one cross-bar for the fork mounts, front wheels in the trunk. Rear bike wheel(s) would need to be fixed, perhaps a strap? |

For a number of years I used a yakima roof rack attached to my rear trunk lid.
Just don't try to lift the lid with bikes on the rack.

I had an old top for my 914. I bought a set of 4 Yak 'rail riders' and 2 Yak bars. The rail riders bolt through the roof using large fender washers on the inside of the car. The system works nicley to carry my kayak and paddle. I have tested the system to 85 MPH
