I was just wondering if anyone is attending the Funfest in Effingham, IL on July 20 & 21. I've never been there before but I think I'm going this year. Anybody going??

You know, I might just go to that. The 'teen' definitely won't be up and running, but it sound's like something good to do on a weekend. Probably rather be in my truck anyway, A/C will be a absolute must come July 20, it's like 'Africa Hot' out here that time of year.

Damn, Effingham is F'ing far away!

I'm not sure I'm in the mood for a 4 hour drive in my 914.
With my luck, you guys will see me on the side of the road,
pushing my 'teen the last 120 miles....

Well, at least they are easy to push, I 'roll' mine in and out of the garage all the time. It's about a 2.5 hr trip from here (I think), I'll bring a tow rope for you just in case.

I'd really like to go...I'm just not sure I'm ready for such a long
trip.

I'll review the maps, and check my budget, and see if I can't
find a backup ride in case I don't feel my 'Teen is ready for such
a long trip. I'd like to meet other IL 'Teeners and learn more about
my new favorite car!

I should have been more specific in my first post but here goes. anybody ever get the catalog TWEEKS, distributed by madirect? they are based in Effingham, IL and have a Car Show, a road tour, swap meet, etc. It's a 2 day event. You can find more info at www.madirect.com. It's free to enter your car. I've never been there before but I got my car looking good enough that I wan't to take there. I'm going to trailer my car in though, It's a lot easier riding in a motorhome! there website says there were around 350 cars there last year. let me know if anyone goes, I will be there for sure. It's only about 4 hours for me, see ya there.

Raven, that's not a long trip.

Maybe another road trip is in order to see if I fixed my friends 1.7 correctly. After all it's only IL. Funny, after driving from CA to MA in three days, the country doesn't seem so big anymore. Hell, IL is almost a day trip.

Gee Dave, could that 100 mph cruising speed through the midwest have anything to do with your sense that MA to IL is a day trip?

And remember, Illinois has reciprocity with Iowa for moving violations....

Sorry Bob, It wasn't me who got the speedo verification notice, it was the car's owner. I was a good boy and drove right around the limit; except for when trying to chace the Viper and a little bit through the desert at night. Besides, a stock 1.7 can't do 102.

Seriously though, we drove non stop from somewhere in Iowa to Boston. If that can be done, than anything within the state of IL is a nice cruise in a good 914.

Heh, yeah, but I *JUST* got mine...and it's a bit loud!

I'm nearly deaf from driving about 350 miles this last weekend
with the top off and the girlfriend with me (top off the car,
not the girlfriend...she was later)

I'll look into it, check my budget, and see if I can afford to get
my car looked at before I chance another LONG trip. This car
of mine still has some PO electrical issues I have to deal with.
Like the one wire that is green, black, blue, red...and I'm still
trying to figure out where it connects to!

I'll be there,Map Quest says its a 6+ hr. drive, so If anyone sees a Black 914 with Ohio Plates along side the road,PLEASE STOP. I'll take I-75 south to Dayton,then then I-70 west to Effingham. Anyone along the route want to meet up? Let Me know.

I used to go when it was TWEEKs in Indianapolis....and then to Effingham after Tweeks was bought out....and stopped going when they cancelled the swap meet. I see they're having the swap meet again....but without Pro vendors, I guess Doc & Cy's was hurtin their business. Chgo PCA is having a DE event at Gingerman the same weekend so, I guess I'll flip a coin and see who wins...
It's usually a great time LOTS of Porsches 300+...but HOT !!

Any idea what day the swap meet will be taking place? I think traditionally it was on Sunday - but the "new" Tweeks hasn't really been known for their upkeep of tradition....

Might be coming down in the six on Sunday if I can convince dad the 2 hour drive from Peoria won't cripple him up too bad!

For all you Chicago/Milwaukee area folks…

Keep an eye out for a very loosely organized 914 get-together at Gurnee Mills Mall (http://gurneemillsmall.com/) sometime in mid-August/September. At this point there is no date set or anything like that, just a bunch of us from the area talking about how we’d like to get together and compare rust spots.
